Epsom Salt and Weight Loss

Epsom salts are a chemical substance known as magnesium sulfate. They contain both sulfur and magnesium and look rather similar to regular rock salt that people place on their driveways and stairs to prevent ice buildup. There are many uses for Epsom salts. Lately, Epsom salts and weight loss are often discussed.
How to use Epsom salt baths
Soaking in Epsom salts is said to aid in weight loss. In order to prepare a bath, add one cup of the salts to a hot bath. Allow the salts to dissolve. You can also add some of your favorite bath oil for an improved scent. You can then soak in the tub for up to 25 minutes. Sipping a glass of water while you soak is advised and can help keep you from getting dehydrated.
Does it work?
There is some evidence to suggest that Epsom salt baths do promote weight loss, but some studies also show they do not. Doctors who recommend this treatment say that it works in the following way. The Epsom salts are absorbed into the body through the skin, then they work to flush out toxins. Removal of these toxins promotes weight loss as it detoxifies fat and allows the body to burn it off.
